Torque Lite is the free Android app most box inserts point to, and the KVAEY and BWBWND blue minis name it as the first download. It does one job very well: turning engine PIDs into gauges you arrange on a dashboard screen.
Torque keeps its connection setting under Settings, then OBD2 Adapter Settings. Bluetooth goes in the connection-type field, the paired dongle in the device field, and the protocol stays on automatic for the first run.
Torque Pro adds more screens, logging and extra PIDs for a one-time fee. The Lite version reads and clears codes, enough to judge whether the paid upgrade earns its place on your car.
Torque has no iPhone version. For a Torque ELM327 mini setup on an Android head unit, the JOYING v2.1 mini is sold for exactly that job, with Torque on the stereo's screen. Veepeak, by contrast, says car stereos may not be supported by its VP11, so a head unit is a reason to choose the dongle first and the app second.
If Torque shows “Connecting to ECU” and never finishes, the dongle is paired but the car is not answering. Switch the ignition fully on and press the mini firmly into the port before touching any other setting.

Three apps cover the ground Torque leaves open. OBD Fusion and DashCommand run on Android and iPhone, and YMOBD is the free app Panlong and ViaBecs build their Bluetooth LE setup around.
YMOBD is the simplest of the lot. Panlong describes it as one click to pair and connect, the same on Android and iOS, with no trip into the phone's Bluetooth menu. It also stores and plays back live data and switches between several dongles.

OBD Fusion is a paid app with optional add-on packs for extra makes. It suits owners who log trips or want enhanced data on a supported brand. DashCommand leans toward gauges and performance screens, and both handle Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi minis on an iPhone.
Every one of these apps sends the same ELM327 commands, so the mini itself behaves the same in each. The difference lies in how each app searches for the car and how patient it is with a slow clone.
JOYING sells this v2.1 mini with PIN 1234 for Android head units, so Torque runs on the dash display instead of a phone. Pair it from the stereo's Bluetooth menu, then choose it in Torque's adapter settings.
